Welcome, and thank you for visiting Spencer Counselling.
I am a therapist committed to providing counselling and therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
Life will always present us with challenges and difficult situations. Sometimes these challenges can get on top of us and we stop living and enjoying our lives as fully as we would like. This is where a counsellor can be of help.
Counselling is about offering someone a supportive relationship in a safe and confidential environment where they can talk through whatever is concerning them. It is not about giving advice and an individual or couples counsellor can never be experts in other people’s lives. Counsellors use a number of ways to help people find their unique strengths to work through a particular issue in the best way for them so that they can live their life to the fullest. I work with Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Person Centred Counselling and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) as appropriate for my clients. I
work with both individuals and couples (marriage and other couples) in Guildford, Godalming and Hove on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully.
I am a counsellor offering both face to face & online Individual and Couple Counselling and therapy across 3 areas, Guildford, Godalming and also Hove.
My aim is to support you to lead a happy and fulfilling life by helping you meet your needs individually and within an intimate relationship. Many of us are unaware of what we really need from life and who we share it with to make us happy and fulfilled. Counselling can offer you an opportunity to get to know yourself better and know what you need to do to overcome obstacles and difficulties that stand in your way to living the life you want to lead.
I am a therapist specialising in:
Problems in marriage and other relationships
Eating Disorders (Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa and Obesity) and other concerns regarding food, weight and shape
Carers for loved ones with Eating Disorders
Anxiety and depression
Stress (including corporate stress)
Bereavement and grief
I offer Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Person Centred Counselling. I also use Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) – tapping, and meditation techniques where appropriate for my clients.
We can meet for as many sessions as is helpful. I can offer face to face counselling but also counselling via telephone or Video Conferencing. I work with clients aged 16 and older.
Many of us choose to share our lives with another person who is our partner through either the whole or a significant part of our life. A healthy relationship is where each person in a couple can be open and share their authentic needs with each other.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a simple practical and user friendly technique similar to acupuncture but without using needles. It’s principle is that all symptoms of dis-ease have their root in an imbalance in the body’s energy system.
I have experience of working in Sam Beare and Woking Hospice hospices and The Fountain Centre in Guildford with clients experiencing bereavement and life limiting illness.
I offer both face to face & online (Telephone or Video Conference) Individual and Couples (marriage and other couples) Counselling at the Eaves Counselling and Psychological Services in Guildford and Godalming.
My usual fees are £65 for individual sessions and £85 for couples. I am willing to negotiate my fee for people under particularly difficult circumstances. I ask for 24 hours notice of cancellation otherwise payment is required.
“Andy creates a safe environment where I have gradually learned to understand my personality and my needs better. Counselling gives me the opportunity to express my thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement.”
“I first came to Andy due to a traumatic rape. I found it really useful having a male counsellor and Andy instantly put me at ease. His easy going nature made it far easier to begin speaking about my experiences and he has been a very important part of my recovery.”
“Although we have since parted our work with Andy provided a loving clarity and compassion for the way we both struggle and this has finally allowed me to lay the relationship to rest.”
“Andy did an amazing job of navigating us through some very difficult topics and created a safe environment for us to open up, be ourselves and explore our issues as a couple, topics we knew were too explosive to approach on our own.”
“There were times when I didn’t think our relationship would survive but through ongoing sessions we have worked through some tough issues and our relationship has turned round for the better.”
“I found Andy to be insightful and able to hold the space for both of us, allowing us to explore our dynamics as a couple in a safe environment. As a result of several sessions we were able to come to a resolution and a better understanding of ourselves and each other.”
